DAY 1 - 3:
This unique tour offers visitors a once-in-a-lifetime experience: The chance to get close enough to an active volcano to hear and feel the deep rumbling that precedes occasional eruptions of steam, smoke and molten lava.
At night, when clear, the show is even more stupendous as the mammoth volcano spews red lava and huge rocks glowing against the black sky.
On the first day, depending on the location of your hotel you will explore the friendly town of La Fortuna, or take a hike on various paths around the base of the volcano. For safety’s sake, never forget that Arenal is indeed a very active volcano and should be respected as such.
Seismologists from the University of Costa Rica and the Smithsonian Institute have been monitoring Arenal Volcano for the past 25 years.
Arenal’s last spectacular eruption occurred early in 2001, and the volcano continuously rewards visitors with impressive fireworks displays and voluminous plumes of smoke that rise hundreds of feet into the air. At night, from the comfort of your hotel, you might hear the faint rumbling of the mighty behemoth as you fall asleep.
The next day offers a chance to explore the beautiful Fortuna Waterfall. Afterwards, you will find pure pleasure at Baldi Hot Springs, nestled amid lush tropical vegetation at the base of Arenal Volcano.
The theraupeutic waters emanate from deep within the flanks of the volcano, at about 140 F year round. The thermal waters cascade and form pools of warm, soothing water that soak away every aching muscle.
